The West of England Housing Group was set up to:
- Advise and act in support of the partnership to ensure an adequate supply of housing, especially affordable housing.
- Recommend joint action on housing issues to the partnership and secure the approved outcomes.
- Advocate responses on housing issues to influence national and regional policy and resource allocation.
- Work with the other specialist groups of the partnership on issues of common interest.
Initial priorities include:
- Developing a sub-regional understanding of housing issues. Specifically, interpreting and advising on the Regional Housing Strategy, Regional Spatial Strategy and Integrated Regional Strategy.
- Developing joint policy responses to and actions for the sub-regional housing study.
- Overseeing actions to ensure the adequate supply of housing, especially affordable housing.
The membership of the group consists of the Cabinet members with lead responsibility for housing from each of the four local authorities; the relevant chief officer from each authority; and a number of social, environmental and economic partners.
The group meets six times per year at two monthly intervals and at other times as its members decide. It is chaired by a cabinet member from one of the unitary authorities for twelve months, after which it rotates annually to each of the other three authorities.
