The planning, transport and environment (PTEG) group was set up to:

• Advise and act in support of the partnership (and through the partnership, the local authorities) on sub-regional spatial and transport planning and environmental matters.
• Recommend joint action on these issues to the partnership and secure the outcomes approved.
• Advocate responses on sub-regional spatial and transport planning and the environment to influence regional and national policy and resource allocation.
• Work with the other specialist groups of the partnership on issues of common interest.

The group's immediate priorities include:

• Contributing to the development of a sub-regional vision in support of the partnership.
• Influencing the overall development of the Regional Spatial Strategy and the Regional Transport Strategy by the South West Regional Assembly.
• Developing and recommending to the partnership strategic transport proposals.
• Working with the Housing Group in making recommendations to the partnership in response to the West of England Housing Market Study.
