Skills & Competitiveness

The Skills & Competitiveness Team at the West of England Partnership focuses on work and skills issues in three main areas across the West of England sub-region:

The above areas are based around six key objectives that derive from the Multi-Area Agreement which have been built in to the West of England Tackling Worklessness Plan (formerly the Work & Skills Plan), Inward Investment Strategy and Skills Strategy and have now become fully integrated into the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership submission.

Our direction comes from the recently formed Skills & Competitiveness Board. The Board is employer-led and is made up of private, public and voluntary sector representatives. You can access papers for the Board on our meetings pages in addition to the Board's main aims and the draft 2010-11 Forward Plan.

In order to deliver on the six objectives, action plans and related targets we work closely with a number of key partners and employers as part of the West at Work project. The project coordinates public sector activity and private industry requirements to ensure that support is specifically developed to meet local needs and respond to economic changes. Activity includes work with local businesses and particular sectors, supporting training and advice for jobseekers and promoting opportunities to increase skill levels across the area. Partners include:

Bath and North East Somerset Council, Bristol City Council, Business Link, City of Bristol College, Learning Partnership West, Government Office for the South West, Jobcentre Plus, North Somerset Council, South Gloucestershire Council, South West Regional Development Agency, South West TUC and UWE Bristol.
